History

In the book "De Canibus britannicus" which was published in Latin in the mid-16th century, describes the medium Shepherds dogs, whose control sheepman and method of work with flock of sheep today recalls working Border Collie. Border Collie originates from the Scottish border (Border border =), hence the first part of the name. In the second part of the name is a bit complicated. According to well-known writer, David Taylor, the second part of the name is derived from the black head of the Scottish sheep Colly. Another alternative is a word derived from the old Gaulish "collie", which means anything usable. The last alternative is that anything black in the language of the Scottish Celts were simply "Coly".

Major impact in the shape of the breeds "coliies" type used for grazing, and drive in  guard herds of all species of domesticated livestock. James Bourchier given to dogs bred in Wales and they were, in the opinion, brought together to breed goats from North Africa. This breed of dog called the Welsh HILLMAN. Today it is almost forgotten. Duke of Bedford has kept at his estate colonization, where breeding was known under the name "Woburn Pack". It is holding the first ever Border Collie appeared on the show, but under the name "Highland" or "lowland" Collie, according to place of origin. In 1910, Ralph Fleesh characterize Irish shepherd dog as "an animal given the Scottish Border collie. Although this period are preserved photographs, according to them is clearly seen that the Border Collie that time had a similar hair Bobtail a Bearded Collies, although they excluded black and pure white color.

In 1906 was founded the International Society shepherd dogs - ISDS (International Sheepdog Society), founded by Scottish sheep farmers to register shepherd dogs. From iniciative James Reid was founded in 1915 a book of this organization, first printed in 1955. She introduces us back until 1893, when they were born first registered Border Collie - Dog Old Hemp and bitch Old Maid. British Kennel Club recognition of the long linger in Border collie as a separate breed, but in Australia has been exhibited in 1933 and the stud book registered in 1945. The recognition was also in New Zealand and the United States had been registered as numerous breed. British Kennel Club has been recognized only in 1976 and slowly began to spread into other countries.
